Course Pack Guidelines
1. Course packs are for required materials.
2. Electronic permission must be obtained for copyrighted materials.
3. All requests for copyright permission should be submitted twelve weeks prior to the start of class to the Off-Campus Library Services (OCLS) Coursepack/Copyright Office; however, if the deadline is missed, every attempt will be made to obtain permission for the material in time for class.
Request forms are available at http://ocls.cmich.edu/copyright/index.html#forms
or by calling the Coursepack/Copyright Office at 800-274-3838 or 989-774-3828.
4. The OCLS Coursepack/Copyright Office will
- Secure electronic rights for required material.
- Obtain originals of the materials being requested.
- Place the required credit lines on material.
- Place the material into Blackboard.
5. Electronic rights are granted with the understanding that the material will be placed into your Blackboard shell. Only the enrolled students may access them.
6. If additional copyrighted materials need to be included after the rights have been secured for the initial course pack and the deadline has passed, these materials may be added only if they can be used under fair use guidelines as determined by the Coursepack/Copyright Office staff.
7. Course packs which include only instructors’ self-created materials should be sent to the Coursepack/Copyright Office so that they can be scanned and placed in the Blackboard shell. The address is:
Central Michigan University
Off-Campus Library Services
Attn: Coursepack/Copyright Permissions
202 Park Library
Mt. Pleasant, MI 48859
The materials may also be e-mailed to copycmu@cmich.edu
8. If a substitute professor is brought in to replace a professor who has requested a course pack, the substitute professor will be asked to use the course pack already ordered by the original professor for that class.
