Excursion One:
Don’t miss this opportunity to see the world famous Family History Library, which offers the largest collection of genealogical materials in the world! Tour the library and spend some time researching your family history.
A no charge group tour is scheduled for Friday, April 25, 2008, at 2:30pm. The tour will last approximately 2 hours, but you are welcome to explore the library or research on your own before returning to the hotel at your leisure.
The Family History Library is located at 35 North West Temple Street. The building is 142,000 square feet on five floors. Meet in the Hilton Lobby and walk the short distance to the Library. Space is limited, so reserve your spot now!
Excursion Two:
The new main library building in Salt Lake City is more than a repository of books and computers. Enjoy a guided tour of the new facility and spend the afternoon enjoying “the six-story curving, walkable wall embraces the public plaza, with shops and services at ground level, reading galleries above, and a 300-seat auditorium. A multi-level reading area along the glass lens at the southern facade of the building looks out onto the plaza with stunning views of the city and Wasatch Mountains beyond. A roof-top garden, accessible by walking the crescent wall or the elevators, offers a 360 degree view of the Salt Lake Valley.” (SLC Public library was the Thomson Gale/Library Journal 2006 Library of the Year.)
We will take a short Trax (light rail train) ride to the main library and begin our library tour in the lobby. The tour is no charge, but be prepared to use exact change to pay the Trax fare ($1.75 each way). Meet in the Hilton lobby at 2:15 p.m. on Friday April 25.
Excursion Three:
How about a leisurely stroll down the streets of Salt Lake City, enjoying the sights and listening to its fascinating history? The SLC Visitor’s Center offers a self-guided walking tour with MP3 players.
Audio tours are available at the Welcome Center, but equipment is limited so first come, first served. There is no charge for use of MP3 players, but a credit card imprint is required as a deposit. More information is available by calling 800-541-4955 or visiting the web site.
