Flash Fiction

Flash Fiction, the writing of fiction stories on the back of business cards, was the brainchild of Mary Ashby Girard of Lake Worth, Florida.  After submitting five stories to Mary for publication in 2005, Jennie Inglis continued writing these little gems, creating the collection she shares with you at the OCLS Conference.  Jennie will present a limited number of Flash Fiction stories during Thursday's luncheon.  Look for the entire collection of them as a PowerPoint display in the hospitality room during the breaks on Thursday.

Examples

Moral Development - “I’m looking for a film entitled ‘Moral Development’,” he wrote.  Giddily, she grabbed the VHS copy from the shelf and boarded the next shuttle to Sioux Falls. She knocked on his door.  “Here’s your film, Mr. Barlow.  I hope I’m not too late.”  Their eyes met.  “No, my dear.  You are not.”  He shepherded her into his office and closed the door.  The lights went out inside.

Mundane Spots on the Planet - Traveling from town to town, she became bored with the same box stores, gas stations and subdivisions.  To spice-up these mundane spots on the planet, she poured Chromatic Dream Dust out the window as she drove through.  In her path she left a jungle, a carnival, a rainbow of color and richness.  The people were never the same.
